Residential Painting in Columbia, SC
Your home is the biggest thing you own, and paint is the first thing that protects it. DuVall Painting and Repairs has painted homes across the Midlands since 1988. We're owner-operated: Scott DuVall Sr. is involved in your project from the first walk-through to the final touch-up. We paint interiors, exteriors, cabinets, trim, doors, decks and fences for homeowners in Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, Chapin and the surrounding area.
Of our 203 Google reviews, 195 are five stars. Most of them mention the same things: clean work, honest advice and a crew that shows up when we said we would.

Why homeowners in the Midlands choose DuVall Painting
- Over 35 years of experience. Scott has been painting houses in this area since 1988, through every kind of South Carolina summer.
- Owner-operated. You talk to the owner, not a call center or a sales rep who never comes back.
- Sherwin-Williams paints. We use Sherwin-Williams on our jobs because the products hold up to Midlands heat and humidity. If you prefer another brand, just ask and we'll use it.
- 5-year warranty. Work done with the paints we recommend is backed by our 5-year warranty.
- 195 five-star Google reviews (out of 203). That’s more Google reviews than any other painting company in the Columbia area (as of November 2026). Our reputation comes from our neighbors.
Residential painting services we offer
Interior painting
Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, stairways, banisters and accent walls. We move and cover furniture, protect floors, patch nail holes and dings, and leave clean, straight lines. See our interior painting page.
Exterior painting
Siding, trim, fascia, soffits, shutters, front doors, porches and garage doors. Exterior work starts with washing and scraping, then caulking and priming, because in our climate the prep decides how long paint lasts. See our exterior painting page.
Cabinet refinishing
A cabinet repaint gives a kitchen or bathroom a new look without the cost and mess of tearing out cabinets. See cabinet refinishing.
Deck and fence staining
Clean, brighten and stain or seal decks, fences, railings and gates so the wood is protected from sun and rain. See deck & fence staining.
Painting-related repairs
We are DuVall Painting and Repairs. Before painting we can fix small drywall damage, replace short runs of rotted trim, and re-caulk windows and doors, so you don't have to hire a second contractor for prep work.
How a residential paint job works with us
- Free estimate. Call or email. We walk the house with you, look at the surfaces, ask what you want, and give you a written estimate.
- Color and product help. Not sure about a color? We can bring Sherwin-Williams samples and help you choose a sheen that suits the room or the siding.
- Scheduling. We give you a start date and tell you how long the job should take.
- Prep. Covering floors and furniture, washing, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking and priming. This is the part that separates a paint job that lasts from one that peels in two summers.
- Painting. Two coats where needed, cut in by hand, with clean edges.
- Walk-through. We walk the job with you and touch up anything you point out before we call it done.
- Clean-up. We take our trash, sweep up and put furniture back.
Painting for South Carolina weather
Midlands homes deal with long, hot summers, strong sun, high humidity, heavy summer storms, spring pollen and plenty of shade from big trees. That combination causes the problems we see most often:
- Fading and chalking on south- and west-facing walls.
- Mildew and green algae on shaded siding, north walls and under eaves.
- Peeling and blistering where moisture gets behind the paint, often around windows, doors and trim.
- Wood rot at the bottom of door frames, fascia boards and window sills.
We choose primers and paints for those conditions and focus on keeping water out. That's why we recommend specific Sherwin-Williams products for exteriors, and why our 5-year warranty is tied to using them.
Homes we work on
From older Columbia homes in neighborhoods like Shandon and Rosewood to newer subdivisions in Lexington, Irmo and Chapin, we've painted brick ranches, vinyl- and fiber-cement-sided two-stories, lake houses and rentals. We also help landlords and property managers turn rentals over quickly between tenants.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to paint a house in Columbia, SC?
Every house is different. Price depends on size, the number of stories, the condition of the surfaces, how much prep and repair is needed, and the products used. We give free written estimates after seeing the home, so you get a real number, not a guess.
What paint brand do you use?
We use Sherwin-Williams for our work. If you'd like a different brand, we're happy to use it. Our 5-year warranty applies when the paints we recommend are used.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. We offer a 5-year warranty on work done with the paints we recommend. Ask us for the details on your estimate.
How long does a house painting job take?
A few rooms often take a couple of days. A full exterior usually takes longer, depending on size, prep and weather. We'll give you a timeline with your estimate.
Do I need to move my furniture?
No. We move and cover furniture as part of the job. We do ask that you put away small breakables and personal items.
Can you fix rotted wood or damaged drywall before painting?
Yes. Painting-related repairs are a big part of what we do, and fixing them first is what makes the new paint last.
