About DuVall Painting and Repairs
How it started
I'm Scott DuVall, owner of DuVall Painting and Repairs. I started painting when I was 15 years old, just to make some extra money. I liked the work, and people liked what I did for them. They told their neighbors, and the jobs kept coming. By the time I was 18, I had three full-time employees.
I built this business from the ground up on my own as a teenager. We've been DuVall Painting and Repairs officially since 1988, and the business has kept growing right along with Columbia and the surrounding areas: Lexington, Irmo, Chapin and the neighborhoods in between.
Learning it the hard way
When I started, there was no Google Maps, no email and no texting. I kept big fold-out paper maps in the truck to find every job, called customers back from a phone at home, and learned everything about this trade the hard way: by doing it, making mistakes and getting better on every house.
That's a lot of years of repainting homes in the Midlands. I believe I'm the most experienced residential repaint painter in Columbia. I didn't buy my reputation. I earned it, house by house, from the ground up. Today you'll see it in our Google reviews, but it started with neighbors telling neighbors.
How we work
I'm still involved in the work. When you call, you're talking to the owner. I'll come look at your project, tell you honestly what it needs and what it doesn't, and give you a fair written estimate.
We use Sherwin-Williams paints because they hold up in our South Carolina heat and humidity. If you'd rather use a different brand, we'll use it. When you go with the paints we recommend, our work is backed by a 5-year warranty.
We're DuVall Painting and Repairs because a paint job is only as good as what's under it. If we find soft wood, damaged drywall or bad caulk, we fix it before we paint, instead of covering it up.

Most of our work still comes from people recommending us to their family, friends and neighbors, the same way it did when I was 15.
