Interior painting services

Walls and accent walls

Smooth, even coverage with crisp cut lines at ceilings and trim. Accent walls add color or contrast to a living room, bedroom or office.

Ceilings

Ceilings take a beating from water stains, smoke and age. We repair stains, prime them so they don't bleed through, and paint ceilings with a flat finish that hides imperfections.

Trim, baseboards, doors and crown molding

Trim gets the most wear. We fill nail holes, caulk gaps, sand and paint trim with a durable semi-gloss or satin finish that can be wiped clean.

Staircases and banisters

High-traffic areas need hard-wearing finishes and careful hand work around spindles and treads.

Cabinets and built-ins

Kitchen and bathroom cabinets, bookcases and built-ins. See cabinet refinishing.

Drywall repairs

Holes from TV mounts, doorknob dents, cracks and water damage are patched and blended before painting, so the repair doesn't show through the new paint.

Our interior painting process

  1. Walk-through and free estimate. We look at each room and talk about colors, sheens and timing.
  2. Protect your home. Floors are covered, furniture is moved to the middle of the room and covered, and outlet and switch plates come off.
  3. Prep. Patch, caulk, sand and spot-prime. Stains get a stain-blocking primer.
  4. Paint. Ceilings first, then walls, then trim, with brushes and rollers for clean lines.
  5. Walk-through and touch-ups. We go room by room with you.
  6. Clean-up. Furniture back, plates back on, floors swept.

The right paint and sheen for each room

We use Sherwin-Williams paints, and will use another brand if you request it. Work done with the paints we recommend comes with our 5-year warranty. As a general guide:

  • Ceilings: flat, to hide imperfections.
  • Living rooms and bedrooms: matte or eggshell, for a soft look that still cleans up.
  • Kitchens, bathrooms, kids' rooms and hallways: satin or a scrubbable finish that stands up to moisture and fingerprints.
  • Trim and doors: semi-gloss or satin, for durability.

In our humid climate, bathrooms and laundry rooms benefit from a mildew-resistant finish. We'll tell you what we recommend and why.

Choosing colors

Many people get stuck on color. We can bring Sherwin-Williams color samples, suggest colors that suit your lighting and flooring, and recommend painting a test swatch on the wall before you commit. Columbia-area homes get a lot of strong afternoon sun, and a color can look very different in a west-facing room than in a north-facing one.

Interior painting for every kind of property

  • Homeowners refreshing a room or the whole house.
  • Home sellers getting a house ready to list, where neutral, fresh paint helps buyers picture themselves there.
  • New homeowners painting before they move furniture in.
  • Landlords and property managers turning rentals over quickly.
  • Small businesses and offices. See commercial painting.

Living in your home while we paint

Most interior jobs happen while you're living at home. We work room by room, keep walkways clear, and clean up at the end of each day so your house stays livable. Ask us about low-odor paint options if anyone in the home is sensitive to smells.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to paint a room?

A typical bedroom often takes about a day, depending on repairs, ceiling work, trim and the number of coats. We'll give you a timeline with your estimate.

Do you paint ceilings and trim too?

Yes. Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, stairs and cabinets.

Do I need to choose colors before the estimate?

No. We can help you choose. Colors usually don't change the price much; the size and condition of the rooms do.

What brand of paint do you use?

Sherwin-Williams. We'll use another brand if you prefer. The 5-year warranty applies when the paints we recommend are used.

Do you repair drywall before painting?

Yes. Patching holes, cracks and dents is part of our prep.

Can you paint while we're at work or out of town?

Often, yes. Talk to us about access and scheduling.

What areas do you serve?

Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, Chapin and nearby communities.
